Chief Information Officer

Client

A $1.0 billion global consumer products subsidiary in the midst of a large-scale transformation effort asked us to find a new Chief Information Officer

Considerations

Our client was in the process of combining two consumer products companies into one. The combined company had approximately $1.0 billion in sales and had seven manufacturing sites across China, Mexico and Canada. Both companies were very behind in IT systems and technologies.  In some instances, the business were running key metrics and financials via spreadsheets. Their e-commerce systems were underperforming against their competition. There was also a need to rebuild the entire IT infrastructure as nearly everything in place was obsolete.

We set out in search of a true transformational leader, someone who had the know-how and vision to step into what was essentially a greenfield scenario. Specifically, we were looking for an IT leader who had a deep understanding of how technology could be used to improve distribution. One of the first projects the new CIO would be tasked with was building a centralized distribution center for the newly combined entity. Another key focus was the ability to build and grow an e-commerce platform. Our client’s near-term goal was to grow e-commerce revenue from 20% to 50%.

Our initial research and recruiting strategy included both direct competitors as well as best-in-class companies in different industries who were known for their distribution prowess and e-commerce platforms.

Impact

Our placement came from a $2 billion division of a public company. He had a strong manufacturing and operations background and had done a significant amount of work in digital transformation and cloud migration. He came into his previous organization facing a 17-year-old IT system and was tasked with modernizing the platform and realigning it with the company. He also stood up his company’s e-commerce platform from scratch. With those significant projects complete, he was looking for his next challenge.
